Damaged Edges

DamagedEdgesCAUSES: Damaged edges are generally caused by improper packaging or handling during shipment. For this reason, most expensive wall-coverings are shipped from the factory with the selvage (edges) still remaining. These must be removed manually on the job by the installer.

Many times, the edges are only damaged within the first few feet of a roll. The installer should take time to carefully inspect the damage prior to determining whether or not to use the roll. In many cases, the damaged edges can be placed beside door openings or other obstacles where the edge would be cut away and wasted anyway.

Extra care should be taken once the wallcovering has arrived on the job to protect the ends of the rolls from damage. This means that the wall-covering should not be stood on the ends because it could crush or damage the edges. This is especially relevant to wallcoverings such as Mylars, foils, and other wallcoverings that wrinkle easily.
